At last, the album that fans of Bob, Pilchard, Wendy, Farmer Pickles and co have been waiting for. As with most children's television musical tie-ins, Bob the Builder--The Album combines quirky, humorous lyrics that reference the narrative and the characters of the show, with contemporary musical sounds. Copying the successful formula of the UK No. 1 singles, "Can We Fix It?" and "Mambo No. 5" the album is packed with plenty of building trade lyrical allusions ("...mix it up","...don't mess with my JCB"). "Let's Get Busy" has a garage-style beat that cheekily incorporates bird "cheeping" samples, while "No One Can Dig It" is a down-tempo Latino-type track which quotes some of the lines from "Can We Fix It". Line-dancing though gets the most acknowledgement, with "Bob's Line Dance" and the duet with Wendy "Blonde Haired Gal" paying homage to Texas's greatest musical export. Overall a fun album that is only slightly soured by Spud the Scarecrow's plucky ballad "What Can I Be" which strangely resembles Keith Harris's and Orville's winsome 1983 hit "I Wish I Could Fly". Top pop for tots, builders and adults too. --John Galilee
